Tonight I was treated to the most stunning, breathtaking show in the sky. I stood for 15 minutes and took these shots. I wanted to capture these moments of beauty. The clouds were moving so quickly that every shot I took was a completely different view. Partially covered, completely visible, mysteriously gone, and then peeking out again.

Photography is one of my favorite things.
Also, I was just on your post regarding sending your daughter to China. I’m not a parent so I didn’t feel like I should respond.
BUT
As one who has lived abroad for many years since being a teenager, I can say that international travel and the experiences one has cane be incredibly life-altering. At 17, before going off to school and studying, it might be great for her to see another part of the world, have a little independence (not too much, still chaperoned), and gain some more perspective.
I definitely understand your trepidation, but it’s such a great opportunity.
Anyway, I told myself not to put my two cents in because I’m not a mom. But then I went ahead and did it anyway.
Go figure.

On my way home tonight with Ivan the sun was just setting and the clouds were thick and opaque, but just touching the treetops on the ridge in the distance was a luminous circle of glowing light. I almost stopped and took pictures, it was unusual, like your moon. The large teen beside me pooh-poohed it and I drove on. I shouldn’t listen to him.
Better yet, hand him the camera and tell him you won’t start the car until he gets 3 good photos! I’m glad you saw the moon too. It has been a true vision this week.

Hi huffygirl. Yes, it is sometimes easy to miss unless we look around expecting to find it.
Those are truly magnificent shots! My only problem in taking photos like these, is all my gear is old film equipment – the one digital camera is just a point-and-shoot cheapie. And the nearest real camera shop that sells higher speed film is several hours away. I miss being able to do this kind of photography – I’ve got an F2.8 lens I used with 1600 speed film. I’ve got photos of several celebrities I met at sci-fi conventions, shot by the light of a single 60-watt bulb. Grace Lee Whitney, blond and wearing white in a dim reddish light -absolutely stunning. Maybe a road trip is in order! 🙂
Hi John…just use your point and shoot when you don’t have film. I use both. At least you get the memory. But it does sound like the time has come for your road trip. I love road trips. Make sure to stop on the drive home to shoot something new.
Great shots! I went out last night to lock up the cars and noticed the full moon over our lake. It was breathtaking. Made me curse the folks that originally built our house, designing the house so that the living area is in the back of the house with no view of the lake whatsoever. If we want to look out over the water and enjoy the moonlight…we have to peer out our kitchen window…..arrggg!! Have a great weekend Gord! 🙂

There is magic all around us if only will look. The magic of life. Congratulations for looking. Most people miss the obvious. Life is a grand play with miracles happening every moment. Most of us just aren’t looking. Thanks for posting those photos. It reminded me of a magical moment many years ago involving the moon and clouds. Enjoy every breath of your life. . .
