Happy 18th Birthday Big One

We had a lovely dinner for Big One and her 12 best friends to celebrate her 18th birthday!  These kids have been with her through High School and they have been good to one another – keeping each other on track, competing for grades, calling each other out when they are losing focus, encouraging each other as they applied for and secured part-time jobs, supporting through the sad days and celebrating the successes.

These kids have been in my house a lot.  They are noisy, they eat a lot, and they most often leave a mess.  I wouldn’t have traded any of the time they visited for peace.  The quiet is about to descend on our house as they graduate next month and soon after pack up and leave for university.

This night was special.  They dressed up, and used their manners, and participated in dinner conversation with my husband and me.  Almost like a dinner party with people my own age – except they came early (when they know there is food involved, they don’t want to take chances).

Happy 18th Birthday Big One.  I’m so proud of you and your friends.

Birthday girl and friends…

and the two who came late…

So pretty and stylish! It’s sad when they go away because the quiet really does take over the house.
