Sunday Letters – Dec 30, 2012

Dear 2012,

Thank you for the challenges, the lessons, the celebrations, and the reminders.

The challenges of sending Big One off to University, watching Little One start to drive, living through the basement renovation (that is now complete), and giving my very best to each of them while taking on the new job and motivating over 300 people to come together as a team.  I also broke my toe and had surgery on my finger.  All body parts are back to normal working order at the end of the year!

The lessons included letting myself lean on others to get through the tough days instead of trying to do it all alone, balancing fun and work, running hard and sleeping, and believing that it’s okay to have lots of people in your house without everything needing to be perfect.  Thanks girlfriend for the comment “do you have friends who would come over and complain if something goes wrong” that allowed me to lighten up and lots of celebrations in our house this year…

The celebrations – I turned 50 and had a house full of friends and family to smother me in love, my Dad turned 75, Big One turned 18, Little One turned 16, Big One graduated from High School, and the group of 20 all left for University in September.  We celebrated each one – with people, and food, and photos, and hugs – and the house has been full of love.  My husband started the year saying he didn’t like planning or having parties and ended the year planning my birthday celebration by himself and loving it!  This has been a year of fabulous milestones and warmth.

The two reminders are sad and yet important…so I continue to see life is always changing around us and I need to really live every day and appreciate every person.  These two events just remind me why.

My boss is leaving his job and I will miss him – as a boss and as a friend.  He has made the right decision for himself and I know I will enter the next chapter of my career and will be challenged and rewarded in new ways.  And my friend can share new and exciting stories with me.

My neighbour died on Christmas Day.  He was 71 and surrounded by family.  He lived a full life, was kind, interesting, active, involved, and loved.  All the things I hope I am today and through my life.  And yet, I’m sure he and his wife (of 48 years) were not done.  Rest in peace, my dear neighbour.

I am blessed today.

With love, Workingtechmom

  1. Hmm – a suspiciously large number of my blogging friends turned 50 this year – yours truly included. And my father turned 75 as well. Very, very suspicious indeed! 😉
Seriously, hope you had a great Christmas and a very Happy New Year, and may 2013 bring you all the best – hopefully, with all body parts intact! 😀

Happy 50th Techy. Still looking youthful I see.

What a great post! Your son looks too young to be driving! 🙂 Our babies grow so quickly! Sorry to hear about your neighbor and your boss leaving the company. Changes always require an adjustment period, hope yours goes smoothly.

    CHEERS
