About

Check out my new thumb travels photoblog for a smile…

http://thumbtravels.wordpress.com/

I am blessed.  I am a mom who works in the technology industry.  Two great teen-agers – Big One (20 year old girl), Little One (18 year old son), and married 24 years to their terrific dad.  At work, I manage a team of 800 technology professionals.

I am busy all the time, but feel I have achieved a fairly good balance in my life.  My friends and family might dispute this.  I have a sign in my kitchen that says “Every day is a gift” and I truly believe this.  All days are challenging in different ways, but I begin each day knowing I have the chance to make a difference and I rise to the challenge.

Like most Moms and most Executives, I often think I can get more things done in a day than is humanly possible.  I am conscious each day to spend time enjoying and doing something just for myself.  Sometimes this is as simple as a 5 minute walk outside between meetings or a drive into work singing loudly with the music arriving at work where I will face 8 hours straight of meetings.  During the hustle of the day, I can conjure up the image of the blessing I felt to have those few minutes alone to reflect.

  4. Let’s hope you take time out for great vacations – your life seems hectic.

    • Hi blackrocket! Funny, I never think of my life as hectic. Busy, full, sometimes overwhelming..hey, maybe that is hectic!

I do take great vacations every year. Thanks for making me reflect on them today.

    Hi,
Thanks for this article! Sites like yours are great to read since I’m a mom who works too! I just do part time, but it certainly takes time away from my family, which is really hard.
I wanted to pass along this great dental blog. It was wonderful ideas on keeping teeth healthy. Feel free to add it to your blog roll or link to it. I hope you enjoy it! http://www.1dental.com/blog/
    Have a great week,
    Cindi

    • Thanks for visiting Cindi. I don’t think of my time away from my family as hard, but more as me learning and bringing experiences home for them to benefit from! The years when the kids were little were more difficult to juggle for sure since fatigue seemed to always be a factor. 🙂

  6. Hey, Techy,

Where have you been? Hope all is well.

    • Hi Margaret. You are so sweet. Nothing was wrong, just a bit overwhelmed with things for a while and new job was leaving me exhausted. I am getting back to normal and back to the blog.

Hey Techy, Thanks to you I’ve been “forced” to put forth my nominations for the Stylish Blogger Award. You’re so popular I’ve had to nominate you again. Here’s the link: http://huffygirl.wordpress.com/ but since you’ve already done your part, I think you’re excused if you like.

  8. I am so happy to have checked out your blog. I love it! And yes, those few minutes alone keep me together most days. I can’t imagine being in charge of 500 people, you rock!

Hey Tech, just a quick announcement that I nominated you for the Memetastic Award. You can read more about it in my latest blog post — sorry for not giving you a heads-up before I did it, but that’s not really a requirement!

  12. Hi! Wow, I want to be like you when I grow up! I am a working mum as well and I am also doing an MBA. It’s really really tough and I often wonder if I’m just a lunatic for biting off more than I can chew. I manage 9 petroleum engineers at work and that’s hard enough. I can’t imagine how you manage 500 people…. So I think there’s a lot to learn and read from you so I will be stopping by often….More grease to your elbow! K
